Check out this clip from Good Morning America about college a cappella…

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen much mainstream coverage of collegiate a cappella. ¬†And other than the occasional Backstreet Boys/’N Sync tune a cappella usually doesn’t enter the mainstream-popular-music world (unless you count Rockappella, but I wouldn’t). ¬†What do you think? ¬†Can college a cappela, or just a cappella, go mainstream?

Alright folks, the news is out.  Here are the finalists for the Ben Folds a cappella CD, as reported on his blog:

4. Lady Bens – Cigarette
5. Newtones (Newton High School in Boston) – Evaporated
6. Fifth Element (University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire) – Fair

17. All Night Yahtzee (Florida State) – Missing The War
18. Treble in Paradise (American University) – Zak and Sara

I’ll have to narrow it down more. But that’s where it stands as of now. We’ll know more once everything is recorded. And I’ll be doing some traveling with my engineer, Joe and some old ribbon mics to record as many as I have time for in the first couple of weeks of December.¬†

Unfortunately, it looks like none of the college groups around Boston got picked. ¬†Maybe next time. ¬†There were a TON of entries. ¬†If you’re looking for some procrastination material hit up youtube and search “Ben Folds a cappella.” ¬†Watch out, it could drive you crazy.

And since we don’t have a fancy poster for our concert yet….here’s a picture of the beautiful and talented women you’ll be seeing that night (us, obv):

Come experience Boston University’s Premiere All-Male a cappella group at Morse Auditorium this Saturday, December 6th at 7:30PM!
